If you’ve ever dreamt of translating your video game skills to real life to beat the competition in a triumphant victory, you might be in luck. The Drone Racing League (DRL) released The DRL Simulatorvideo game, accessible on Steam this past June, and the company just announced a highly-appealing reason to download the $19.99 game: If you’re part of the top 24 racers online by January 15, 2018, you’ll get to compete in a live tournament February 3. The winning contestant gets a spot in the 2018 DRL Allianz World Championship and a $75,000 contract with the Drone Racing League.
According to Engadget, DRL’s new sponsor Swatch is funding these tryouts for the next season of the increasingly popular DRL Allianz World Championship. We recently reported on next year’s finale, which is said to take place in Saudi Arabia, where drone racing is apparently in high demand.

The DRL Simulator is the most immersive drone racing video game on the console. DCL the Game is a very new simulator from the Drone Champions League, a new racing league who starting to gain some traction. This sim is very new with only a Windows trial currently available however what we have seen so far looks promising.
The DRL Simulator allows players to race drones on virtually recreated tracks that the DRL uses in real life. That's a huge plus for those final contestants, who will be able to take its simulated practice into the real world in February.

The Drone Racing League’s 2020 Online Simulation Tournament is virus proof – it’s all online.
Virtual tryouts are underway with regular matches through March 26. The champ will receive a $50,000 season contract. In total, the DRL is awarding $75,000 in prizes over the two-month seasons. The tryouts will allow any potential racer to compete from the comfort of their computer. The final race will be webcast on April 2.
This week’s contests launches March 19 at 9:30 p.m. and will feature a virtual appearance by DRL pilot HEADSUP
To give it a try, download the simulator and create a free online account. Entrants must have a Windows or Mac PC, the DRL Simulator and a reliable Internet connection. Sponsor recommends a 3 MB/s download and 0.5 MBs upload connection.
Those completing three heats on the 2020 tryouts track will automatically qualify to join the weekly online tournaments with no time cut off.
“Each week is a different track. During the tournament, you have 30 minutes to set your fastest time in a Solo Race using the DRL Racer4. The Top 24 will battle it out bracket-style to become the overall winner. Every tournament winner automatically advances to the Finals.”
One Grand Prize Winner will receive a DRL Pilot Contract opportunity valued at $50,000. At the end of each Thursday during the contest period, the top three eligible players on the leaderboard will be awarded $250.
Regional Leaderboard Prizes: At the end of the Contest Period, the top 25 eligible players on each of the Asia/Australia, Africa/Europe and North America/South America leaderboards will be awarded prizes in conjunction with the below schedule.

Rookie Tournament Prizes: At the end of the contest period, the top 25 eligible players on the Rookie Leaderboard (only open to players who have downloaded the DRL Simulator for the first time) will be awarded prizes in conjunction with the below schedule.
